Color Palette Generator: what to know

The color palette generator builds a set of colors that work together. Each new palette starts from a base hue and uses a color harmony (analogous, complementary, triadic and others) with controlled steps in lightness and chroma, so you get usable palettes instead of five random colors that clash.

Lock any color you like and generate again: locked swatches stay put while the rest change. Click a swatch to fine-tune it and see its name and code. The address bar updates with your palette, so the link is a permanent, shareable copy of it.

Palettes are built in OKLCH, a color space designed so equal steps look equal to the eye. That's why the lighter and darker colors in a palette feel evenly spaced, and why two colors at the same lightness actually look equally light, which RGB and HSL can't promise.

Popular uses

  • Finding a color scheme for a new website or app
  • Exploring brand color directions before a client meeting
  • Building palettes for slides, posters and social graphics
  • Getting fresh color ideas for illustration and art

Tips for the best result

  • Aim for one dominant color, one or two supporting colors and a neutral; the 60-30-10 rule is a good starting split.
  • Lock your brand color first, then generate until the others feel right.
  • Check the lightest and darkest colors together in the contrast checker before using them for text.
